Dear friends,
We are happy to be back with you again. The months October and November were chilly and damp. Many of the children were down with seasonal cough, cold and fever. The weather is now bright; sunny joyous days with the students are here again.
Looking back – we see that on March 21, My School Satya Surabhi celebrated its Annual Day. Our school wore a festive look, children gleamed with enthusiasm and excitement, all was ready for the show to begin. Once the guests were seated the students in their cheerful voices welcomed the visitors and entertained them for two hours with music, dance, karate, yoga and sports. The audience loved their performances and a hundred happy faces wished them well.
In April yet another Art Collage Work Shop was organized by Shalini Biswajeet a well-known artist from Chennai. She showed the children how to cut out pages from magazines to make interesting compositions. The children with their zest for creativity made beautiful pictures. These were purchased by socially conscious art lovers in Chennai, while the earnings from the sales will go towards our building project.
This brings us to our plans for a new building for our school, the existing shed has become small and cramped, we need a bigger place for growth space for amenities for our students needs. The initiation of the project with Bhoomi Puja, invoking mother nature, was held on August 26, formal construction will start on January14, 2007. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 15, 00,000/- . The fund raising scheme will feature “Our Brick By Brick Project”, an on-going collection of donations from students of the more privileged schools. We note with happiness that students from educational institutions in Chennai are enthused and sensitized by the thought of helping My School Satya Surabhi out of their own resources. We hope to spread Our Brick By Brick Project to schools in other cities. We appeal to you for your participation in this program by asking children known to you to help in this cause.
This year we have initiated a rural women’s empowerment program. In order to give them economic independence, women in groups of six or seven are taught a craft such as knitting or crochet. All of us at Satya Surabhi thank Margaret Shekaran for her involvement with this project.
Our annual Tree Planting week from October 2 to October 9 was very successful, the students of My School Satyta Surabhi along with their teachers planted a hundred saplings in several schools, temples, and churches in the local neighbourhoods.
In November The Environmental Club comprising students and teachers of My School Satya Surabhi cleaned up our village Attuvampatti, carrying forth the message of civic awareness. This is an on going project – once a term the children go to a village to work with parents and the community.
On November 15, Ms. R. Vasuki, the Collector Dindigul District paid an unofficial visit to My School Satya Surabhi – more on this with a report from our students.
Another year has flown by. We, the teachers and friends of My School Satya Surabhi will constantly strive to create an atmosphere of happiness in our environment by imbuing values in the children, parents and community. Our goal is very simple receiving joy from play, work, and nature, so that the children grow into wholesome, happy and positive adults.
School closes on December 20, with a Nativity Program enacted by our little ones.
Starting this year, our Newsletters will carry creative writing and drawing by our students. Please do e-mail your comments and do visit our web site at www.satyasurabhi.com
We wish every one peace, happiness and good health in the year to come.
