The Birth of Christ

Jesus Christ was the founder of the Christian religion. Christians believe that he is the son of god who was sent to earth to save mankind. He was a great and wise teacher. No one knows at what time of the year Jesus was born. But since the 300’s Christians have celebrated December 25 as Christ’s birthday. The name Jesus in Hebraw means Saviour or help of the Greek word christo, which means the anointed one.

THE NATIVITY:

Jesus was born during the lifetime of Herod the Great, whom the Romans had appointed to rule overJudea. Mary and her husband Joseph a carpenter lived inNazareth. The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced that her child would be the son of God. It was a silent night.Bethlehemwas a small town inSouthern Judea. Mary and Joseph had to find shelter in a stable where Jesus was born. The shepherds nearBethlehemsaw angels in the sky and heard them sing, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will to wards men” Herod had told the wise men from the east after they found the Christ child, but they did not do so.  Herod became angry and afraid of this new “King of the Jews’. He ordered all boys ofBethlehem, 2 years old and younger, put to death. An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and warned him. Then Joseph took Mary and infant Jesus and fled toEgypt. They returned toNazarethafter Herod died.

CHILDHOOD:

Jesus childhood was probably spent in the town ofNazareth. Jesus grew up inNazarethand probably helped Joseph in his work as a carpenter.

THE END:

The Romans forced Jesus to carry his cross, above to the site of his crucifixion. Jesus was crucified between two thieves. After three hours of suffering, Jesus died. As he hung on the cross, a Roman soldier pierced his side with a spear. Jesus last words were forgive them for they do not know what they do. Today we are rejoicing and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ who gave noble values to humanity.

Herod was a cruel and wicked man who represented all that was evil. Jesus was a kind man who symbolized goodness,, compassion forgiveness and all that was good. This shows that evil does not succeed but goodness prevails always.

Satya Sai Baba – the eternal presence

On April 24, 2011, Satya Saibaba left this mortal world for the immortal abode, his eternal home. We are a little lost without Swami’s physical presence, but the miracle of divine presence, his very presence is being experienced every where…every leaf, flower and fruit, our school of course.

Na me mrityu shanka, na me jaati bhedah
Pita naiva me naiva mata na janma;
Na bandhu na mitram gurur naiva shishyah
Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham…

Om Sairam. May his grace protect & bless the world forever more.

In this context, a comment posted by our trustee Jigyasa Giri on facebook is very relevant: “I remember our founder Padmini aunty narrating this incident – many years ago, when Satya Saibaba was in Kodaikanal, she went to have a glimpse of him. Obviously she was amidst a throng of people, each person calling out to him, reaching out just to have a brush with the Holy man. As he neared her Padmini aunty feebly said: Baba, Bless my husband & my children. But he did not turn to her. Then she said the next most important thing to her: Baba, Bless my school. And amidst the din, he turned towards her & raised his hand in blessing.”

My school Satya Surabhi is a culmination of his blessings. Friends & well wishers support our endeavours in the true spirit of faith & philanthropy. We have a long way to go, but we are not afraid. The children have been meditating deeply to feel one with Baba. Yesterday we received 2 donations from Sridhar & Vrinda Maroo…thank you. Your cheques came at a time when we needed the affirmation that his soul will continue to bless the school. Om Sai Ram.

Dinamalar-Madurai writes about our free school in Kodaikanal, a non-profit venture that imparts quality education. The review in Tamil says that the best service is for education. Educating one child is better than building a thousand Dharamshalas. Mrs. Padmini has made this dream of Bharathiar come true. She has helped the children of economically backward people residing in the Atuvampatti village of the Kodaikanal district by giving free education, uniforms and mid-day meals. She started this free school under the name of MY SCHOOL SATYA SURABHI trust in 1999 and now it has grown to 160 students. She says that educating the children of economically backward society of the hill/plantation workers has given her soul satisfaction.

Students add their voice to anti-corruption!

The recent movement against corruption by Anna Hazare inspired all of us and filled us with hope. We addressed this with our young students and asked them to meditate for a few moments for a corruption free India. After the meditation the students were asked what they visualised! Came a child’s voice – “let there be million more Anna Hazare’s!” Jai Hind.

Anna Hazare - our inspiration for a better India

Anna Hazare - our inspiration for a better India

We are proud that our young ones are adding their inner voice to the movement against corruption by Anna Hazare. These are the ways in which we inculcate value education as part of our early childhood education. Among social issues, corruption is the largest social problem we face and we hope we are moving towards a solution…
